Meloney Toms, Woodwinds Instructor

Meloney Toms is the band director at Providence M.S.  She grew up in the Shenandoah Valley where she enjoyed playing the clarinet and being Drum Major of her high school band. She then moved on to college at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, where she received a Bachelor's in Music Education. She has been a band director in Chesterfield County since 1996.

Jim Neiner, Brass Instructor

Kai Shapard, Color Guard Instructor

It is my honor to be able to introduce myself as the Color Guard Instructor for the Clover Hill High School Marching Cavaliers this fall! Hi, my name is Kai Shapard (fun fact: Hi and Kai rhyme!) and I am currently studying Social Work at Virginia Commonwealth University right in Richmond. At VCU I have been involved in several student organizations, including the VCU Athletic Pep Band (with the electric violin!)
Now as for Color Guard: I marched with my high school grades 10-12 (Westfield High School in Chantilly, VA) and we had the honor of marching the Rose Parade in Pasedena, CA in grade 11. These past 2 years I have spun indoor seasons with the George Mason University Winter Guard and we traveled to Dayton, Ohio for WGI finals.
For me, color guard has been where I have found a passion for learning, teaching, and building bonds. I hope that together we can break some wall, master new things, learn to push yourself and create a color guard team that YOU can be proud of. I look forward to a great season with you all!

Nicholas Bullard, Percussion Instructor

Hello, my name is Nick Bullard, and I am very excited to be the new Drum Line Instructor for the Clover Hill Marching Cavaliers this year! I have been playing drums now for about 18 years. I played percussion all through middle school band and then continued through high school at Thomas Dale. I joined marching band freshman year and made snare and I couldn't get enough of it! I played snare all 4 years and was a rank captain my junior year and then drumline captain my senior year. I also did jazz band my junior and senior year and then also did all-county jazz band and made all-district band both of those years. After I graduated, the band was under new directors so I came back and helped out with the drum line and band and tried to make the transition as smooth as possible. The next year I was the percussion instructor for Thomas Dale and it was great! I am now currently in my third year at Virginia Commonwealth University and getting my Bachelors of Arts in Music Performance with a focus in Percussion. I am also in the legendary and nationally known pep band "The Peppas," which has been one of the best parts of VCU and is one of the most fun things in my life! I also currently play in the worship band for two churches in mechanichsville and henrico. I am excited to see what opportunities come next!

Mason Gatch, Visual Instructor and Leadership Coach

Mason Gatch is a recent transplant to the Richmond, VA area, supporting the Clover Hill High School Bands for the first time in the Fall of 2017. Hailing from Louisville, KY, he earned his Bachelors in Music Education from the University of Louisville. While at UofL, Mason served as Head Drum Major of the Cardinal Marching Band for his last two years. His educational passions revolve around both the individual and the team setting. His focus for individuals is on character and leadership development, while team building is at the center of Mason's educational philosophy. He has also taught privately on the French Horn at Olmsted Academy South, Thomas Jefferson Middle School, and through the Doo Woo Shop Band Department, all in Louisville, KY. Most importantly, Mason is soon to be married to your new Band Director, Brianna Sklute, and is thrilled to bring his passions to serve the Clover Hill High School community, and its students!
